Alabama boater killed in freak accident after anchor flies out of water, striking him

An Alabama man was killed this week after his boat’s anchor struck him, state police said.
Derek V. Egnor, 56, of Sylacauga, was hurt Wednesday afternoon when he was operating a bass boat at Lay Lake in Talladega County.
State police said that an unsecured anchor haning from the boat became caught by something under the water. The anchor rapidly slowed the momentum of the boat.
As tne anchor line tightened, it eventually broke free and flung the anchor out of the water and toward the boat where it struke Egnor.
He was transported to Citizens Hospital in Talladega where he was later pronounced dead.
