An Alabama university student has died after being hospitalized following a swimming accident, the school reported.

Jeavonn Barracks, 20, died Thursday after what Oakwood University officials said was an “unfortunate swimming incident” on February 15.

The university released a public statement about the incident which included, in part:

“We extend our deepest sympathies to Jeavonn’s family, friends, and classmates, and we ask you to keep them in your prayers during this difficult time.”

“We extend our heartfelt condolences to everyone affected by this tragedy. Let us be reminded of the promise that ‘The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit’ – Psalm 34:18”
