A man was killed late Saturday night when his pickup truck ran off the road and struck a tree, Alabama state troopers said.

The single-vehicle crash occurred at approximately 10:58 p.m. Saturday, and claimed the life of a Baker, Florida, man.

Billy R. Fleming, 28, was fatally injured when the 1992 GMC 1500 he was driving left the roadway and struck a tree.

Fleming was not using a seat belt at the time of the crash, was transported to Florida Fort Walton-Destin Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The crash occurred on Covington County 4 near Alabama 54, approximately 5 miles east of Florala, in Covington County.
