A teenage babysitter has been arrested after police say a child in his care tested positive for drugs and suffered severe injuries.

The investigation began last week after police were called to the University of South Alabama Children’s and Women’s Hospital after a 4-year-old was brought in for treatment.

Investigators said the child tested positive for drugs and had severe injuries and extensive bruising they say the 17-year-old boy had caused, Mobile police said.

The teen, who was not identified, was charged with aggravated child abuse and chemical endangerment of a child.

The victim was treated and is home recovering.
