A man racing a motorcycle on an Alabama race track was critically injured Sunday morning and died early Monday, officials said.
The 74-year-old man was racing a motorcycle at the Barber Motorsport Park, Jefferson County Deputy Coroner Bill Yates said Monday.
The racer was identified as Robert Eugene Aegerter, of Capitola, California.
The accident happened at approximately 8:05 a.m. Sunday. Aegerter was transported to UAB Hospital for treatment.
He was pronounced dead at 1:49 a.m. Monday.
The exact circumstances of the accident were not immediately made public.
Online calendars indicate the American Historic Racing Motorcycle Association was having an event at the track on Sunday, though it was unclear if Aegerter was involved in that group’s event or not.
