A pedestrian was killed Thursday when after he was struck by a train, Alabama police said.

Sheffield police said their investigators were working the incident which occurred at the intersection of North Montgomery Avenue and 1st Street in Sheffield.

Police said the man was only identified at the moment as a 43-year-old white male.

The man was transported to a Florence hospital where he was pronounced dead at 1:37 p.m.
