An Alabama woman was struck and killed early Tuesday morning on a highway in Louisiana as she was trying to change a tire.
Louisiana state police said Haley Williamson, 25, of Mobile, Alabama, was killed just after 6 a.m. Tuesday on Interstate 10 in St. James Parish.
Troopers said their investigation revealed that Williamson was driving a 2007 Lexus ES350 headed east in the left lane on Interstate 10 when her front, right tire went flat.
Shortly thereafter, Williamson stopped her vehicle on the left side of the roadway, troopers said.
For reasons still being investigated, Williamson and a second pedestrian were attempting to change the tire, but were partially in the roadway.
Subsequently, an Acura MDX traveling east in the left lane struck both Williamson and the second pedestrian.
Williamson suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The second pedestrian sustained minor injuries and refused aid.
The driver of the Acura was properly restrained and uninjured.
Impairment on the part of the driver is not suspected; however a standard toxicology sample was collected. As part of an ongoing investigation, an autopsy of the deceased will be performed by the St. James Parish Coroner’s Office. This crash remains under investigation.
