An Alabama woman was killed and her husband arrested Saturday after a 5-hour standoff with police.

The domestic incident happened in Fultondale, police said.

Police were called midday Saturday to a domestic incident. When they arrived officers heard gunfire and called for backup.

A standoff with the male suspect began after other officers arrived. It ended after they fired tear gas into the house and entered the residence.

Four children were inside the house, but were removed safely from the house.

The identities of the suspect and the victim were not immediately released.
