Two Alabama police officers were shot in the line of duty with life-threatening injuries Tuesday afternoon.

The shooting happened at a Huntsville apartment complex as Huntsville police officers responded to a “shots fired” call at approximately 4:45 p.m., police said.

When officers arrived, they found a wounded woman who had been shot. The suspect then began shooting at the officers. The officers were taken to Huntsville Hospital with what police said were life-threatening injuries.

The suspect then barricaded himself in one of the apartments for approximately an hour.

The suspect was arrested at approximately 6:20 and taken to the hospital for injuries. It was not clear how the suspect was injured.
