A small plane made an emergency landing Friday evening on a stretch of highway in Alabama prompting traffic to be closed.

Both the Lee County Sheriff’s office and Alabama State Troopers alerted the public to an emergency landing of a small plane on U.S. 280 north of Phenix city.

Alabama troopers said the right, westbound lane near the 117-mile marker in Lee County was blocked.

Online images and video showed what appeared to be a small, single-engine airplane on the highway. The plane did not appear outwardly damaged and appeared to have landed safely without striking anything during the landing.

The landing apparently happened just before 5 p.m.
