An Alabama man was arrested Thursday night on an assault charge after allegedly shooting his brother in an argument over money.
Chief Chuck Brooks said in a release that Aquarius D. Taylor, 21, of Atmore, was taken into custody and later charged with assault I after shooting a Ladarus Quamane Smith, 24, at Atmore Garden Apartments.
Brooks said on Feb. 10 at approximately 9:28 p.m., the APD was contacted in response to a person being shot at Atmore Garden Apartments on East Laurel Street.
“Officers were immediately dispatched to the location, where they discovered a male victim had been transported to Atmore Community Hospital by a private vehicle,” Brooks said.
Brooks said APD officers located the offender (Taylor) at the scene and took him into custody.
“During the investigation, APD officers learned an argument between two brothers over an undisclosed amount of money ended when Taylor shot his brother, Ladarus Quamane Smith, 24, from Brewton,” he said. “Smith was later flown by Medstar Air Transport to a hospital in Mobile. Smith’s injuries were not life threatening.”
