A 15-year-old Alabama girl was shot and killed and her 5-year-old brother shot Wednesday by their mother’s ex-boyfriend after a domestic dispute, police said.
Police said they were called to a report of two people shot just after noon on Wednesday in the 500 block of 25th Street North in Birmingham.
Police said they were called to the residence earlier after a report of a verbal altercation. Apparently, several hours later, police said the suspect who was an ex-boyfriend of the children’s mother returned to the apartment.
Police believe he fired shots into the building from the parking lot. The 15-year-old girl was pronounced dead at the scene. Her brother was transported to a hospital with what was believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.
The suspect, who was not immediately identified, was detained a short time later after a short search, police said.
