Alabama state police shot and killed a man Monday who accused of threatening people at a bank before leading police on a chase and eventually barricading himself in a house, state police officials reported.
Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) received notification of a subject threatening individuals with a knife at a local bank in Ozark, within Dale County.
An ALEA Trooper assigned to the Highway Patrol Division attempted to stop the subject, who was later identified as Boyd Douglas Phillips, 47, of Ozark, state police said.
Subsequently a vehicle pursuit ensued, eventually leading to the 100 Block of Hub Street in Ozark. Phillips then fled into a nearby residence and barricaded himself inside.
ALEA SWAT, along with multiple local law enforcement agencies responded to the scene to assist. During the course of the incident, officers with ALEA SWAT fired shots, striking Phillips. Phillips was pronounced deceased. No officers were injured during the incident.
Nothing further is available as the investigation is ongoing. Once complete, the findings will be turned over to the Dale County District Attorney’s Office.
