An elderly Alabama woman is dead after law enforcement officials say she shot her 75-year-old husband several times and lit their home on fire before turning the gun on herself.

Houston County Sheriff’s Office investigators said they were called to a home on Webb to Kinsey Road Friday morning after a fire was reported.

Deputies found Jolaine Chandler, 72, lying dead in the backyard of the home.

Her husband, 75-year-old Edgar Chandler, was found inside the resident with gunshot wounds to his stomach, hip and arm.

Investigators said it’s possible that Jolaine Chandler suffered from some form of dementia.

Edgar Chandler was transported to a hospital for treatment of what was described as non-life-threatening injuries.
