Alabama man who wrecked car while eluding police charged with murders

An Alabama man has been arrested after his attempts to evade police ended in a car wreck that killed to people, state troopers said.

Wesley T. McKinnon was released from Piedmont Hospital in Columbus, Georgia, on Friday and then arrested by Troopers from ALEA’s Highway Patrol Division and charged with two counts of reckless murder.

McKinnon was transported back to Alabama and has been booked in the Chambers County Jail, where he is currently awaiting a bond hearing.

McKinnon, 20, of Troy, was driving a 2018 Kia Forte Thursday morning while being chased by police when his vehicle struck a 2005 Nissan Altima, driven by Regina G. Rutledge, 64, of Lanett, Alabama.

Rutledge’s passenger, 98-year-old Aron C. Haynes of Valley was critically injured and died later Thursday at a hospital.

McKinnon’s passenger, an 18-year-old juvenile was also injured and pronounced dead at a hospital.
Rutledge was also injured, but her condition was not known.

The deadly accident happened at approximately 9:46 a.m. Thursday, on U.S. 29 near the 205 mile marker within the city limits of Valley in Chambers County.

Troopers said McKinnon was fleeing police just before the wreck.
