Alabama police say they found a man dead, apparently of a gunshot wound, in a car along with an injured woman early Thursday morning.
The incident apparently started in a gas station parking lot of a Marathon station on Pinson Valley Parkway at approximately 3 a.m.
Birmingham police officer Truman Fitzgerald said investigators think the vehicle with the victims was parked at the station when another vehicle pulled up and the occupants began shooting.
Investigators think the shooting victims attempted to drive away in an effort to flee the scene, but wrecked the vehicle as they left.
Police said Jamal Ali Abdulahe, 44, of Gardendale, was found dead inside the vehicle. A woman who was also in the car was injured and taken to a local hospital.
Fitzgerald said no one else appeared to have been injured in the shooting and that the shooting appeared to be targeted.
Police investigators asked that anyone with information about the shooting to contact investigators at 205-254-1764.
