A pedestrian was killed Tuesday afternoon after he was struck by an SUV, Alabama state troopers said.

The single-vehicle crash involving a pedestrian occurred at approximately 3:15 p.m. Tuesday, and claimed the life of a Virginia Beach, Virginia, man.

Daniel L. Johnson, 48, was fatally injured when he was struck by the 2008 Ford Explorer driven by Julie M. Phillips, 24, of Hanceville.

Johnson was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The crash occurred on U.S. 31 near Jochum Road, approximately 1 mile south of Hanceville, in Cullman County.
