A 5-year-old boy has died after he was pulled from the bottom of a hotel swimming pool on Saturday, authorities said.

Emergency crews were called to the Birmingham Embassy Suites on Saturday after people at the hotel noticed the boy at the bottom of the pool. Bystanders pulled the child out of the water and started CPR.

The boy was identified as Jamir Ali Shabazz-Hawkins of Birmingham.

He was transported to a children’s hospital where he ultimately died.
