13-year-old killed in Thursday shooting; suspects claim self-defense

A 13-year-old boy was killed in a Tuscaloosa shooting late Thursday night.

A spokesperson with the Tuscaloosa Police Department said the shooting happened at approximately 11:15 p.m. in the 300 block of James I Harrison Jr. Parkway.

When police arrived on the scene they found the teenager dead along with a handgun nearby.

Two males in their late teens soon after told police they were involved in the deadly shooting and claimed they shot the 13-year-old in self-defense.

The males were detained for questioning. No charges have been filed as the investigation continues.
