An Alabama man has been arrested and charged in a Dec. 2 double shooting that left two people dead.
Malik Rashad Fluker, of Bessemer, is charged with capital murder, murder and attempted murder in the Dec. 2 shooting that killed Ti-Teauna Antunya Riggs, 19, and Makiel Daveon Norwood, 20. Midfield Police Chief Jesse Bell on Saturday announced the arrest.
Earlier detectives said one of the suspects in the shooting was Norwood, who was killed that night.
Police said Riggs was found shot inside a vehicle in the 1300 block of 12th Avenue at 7:24 p.m on Dec. 2. She died at the scene. At 7:41 p.m., the same night, police say Norwood was shot just a few blocks away in the 1300 block of 8th Avenue. He was found lying in the woods and died at the scene.
Midfield police Sgt. Michael Jeffries said detectives believe the shooting started during a drug deal. Police say at some point during the drug deal shots were fired. Fluker and Norwood reportedly fired shots into the car where Riggs was a passenger. The driver of the car fled into the woods and later came out when police reached the scene. The driver has not been charged with any crime.
Bell said Saturday that evidence in the investigation suggests Fluker may have shot Norwood accidentally while both were fleeing.
Fluker was booked into the Jefferson County Jail at 5:24 p.m. Friday and is being held without bond.
