An Alabama man has been charged with the death of his girlfriend, a woman from Midfield whose dead body was found under an old mattress in an industrial area of Bessemer weeks after her disappearance.
Cedric Earl Watts Jr., 36, is charged with murder in the death of Tiffany Osborne, who disappeared on Feb. 17. Her decomposing body was discovered in April in an industrial area off Lakeshore Parkway.
He is being held in the Jefferson County Jail without bond.
Officials say Watts told investigators Osborne left her home to go to a store and never returned. She was reported missing two days later.
Osborne’s body was discovered April 1 in an industrial Bessemer area was at the end of an unfinished road that is a frequent site of trash dumping. Bessemer police said the body was wrapped up and had been hidden under an old mattress.
Authorities believe Osborne’s death was the result of a dispute with Watts. Watt reportedly shot and killed her and then transported and dumped her body where it was discovered. The car in which her body was reportedly transported was recovered in Georgia.
