Alabama authorities are investigating after human remains were found inside a building in western Jefferson County.
The discovery was made about 1:45 p.m. Thursday when a man was walking in woods behind his mother’s home in the Sylvan Springs-Mulga area, Sgt. Joni Money said. The man told investigators he saw a metal building that had been overtaken by brush but he managed to get inside to check out what was in there. Inside, he found what appeared to be skeletal remains.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office is working to identify the remains, news outlets reported. Evidence suggests the remains are those of a 54-year-old man who once lived in Hueytown, Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates said.
An autopsy will be performed to determine the identity and cause of death, Yates said.
