An Alabama woman who owned and operated chicken houses with her husband was convicted of murder in the man’s 2016 shooting death.

It took jurors 25 minutes Tuesday to find 63-year-old Bobbie Green Holaway guilty of murder in the death of Jerry Holaway, AL.Com reported. The verdict capped a weeklong trial.

The Holaway’s owned and operated poultry houses that made the couple’s estate worth around $1 million, the newspaper reported.

Jurors were told that when Blount County sheriff’s deputies arrived at the Holaway’s home on June 10, 2016, they found 68-year-old Jerry Holaway dead with gunshot wounds to the face and chest.

Bobbie Holaway told deputies her husband came into the bedroom twice, yelling and screaming. On the third occasion, she said, Jerry Holaway began striking her so she shot him with a pistol, according to court proceedings.

Bobbie Holaway had no injuries when deputies arrived at the home.

Det. Scott Kanaday obtained a search warrant for Bobbie Holaway’s cell phone.

According to prosecutors, the investigation revealed she was involved with someone else and that she wanted a divorce but didn’t want Jerry Holaway to get half of their estate.

Prosecutors presented texts from Bobbie Holaway to the other person which they said alluded she was willing to do anything to get away from her husband.

Bobbie Holaway’s attorneys said she shot Jerry Holaway because of years of abuse though in her initial interview with deputies she said she wasn’t physically abused, according to the newspaper.

Bobbie Holaway is being held in the Blount County Jail.

She faces a minimum of 20 years in prison at sentencing. No sentencing date has been set yet
