Search continues after airman falls from airplane into Gulf of Mexico

U.S. Coast Guard search crews were poring over the Gulf of Mexico Tuesday night for a U.S. Air Force airman who fell from an airplane during a training exercise.

The unidentified airman was reportedly part of the 24th Special Operations Wing at Hurlburt Field.

The Air Force said in a news release, “search is currently underway for an Airman from the 24th Special Operations Wing who exited his aircraft during a jump training scenario over the Gulf of Mexico approximately 4 miles south of Hurlburt Field. More details will be released as they become available.”

Coast Guard crews confirmed they were helping in the search.

The search was being done a few miles south of Hurlburt Field, which is located just west of Fort Walton Beach, Florida.
